JULY 7, 2005 -SURPRISE!

You were a surprise for us in many ways.  I was at home getting ready for bed in our little pink brick apartment by the Mesa temple.  At 9:55pm I layed down in bed next to dad to go to bed for the night and the second I layed down my water broke.  It was a surprise because you were 2 weeks early and we weren't expecting you quite yet.  We quickly headed to the hospital where the nurses were taking their time getting me settled but when they checked me and saw that you were already on your way out, the whole floor of the hospital went nuts rushing around to make sure that you arrived safely. You were born at 10:56 pm (1 hour later) which was another surprise since most labors last for hours and hours, especially first ones. You weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. and you had the cutest little body and red skin.  I instantly fell in love with you and was in awe of the miracle that a little baby is.

When we got you home a few days later we had another surprise.  You cried ALL THE TIME and you were LOUD!  You brought parenthood upon us with a BANG!  The first two months was just straight crying. I was up with you all night every night.  Dad too because who could sleep with all the crying going on?  One night dad took you in the truck for a ride and you fell asleep and slept with him in the truck because he was afraid to move you.  That was the first night I had actually gotten any sleep.  Another time I was so tired and was laying with you on my chest on the couch and we both fell asleep together.  I woke up and found you face first on the floor.  Apparently, I had dropped you.  I felt so scared.  I thought I had hurt you because you weren't crying but it turns out you were just sleeping (you must have been tired from all the crying you always did).  As you got older things got better and easier but you were a "wake up" call for us as first time parents.
We had you sleep in the laundry room on the dryer when we got desperate because the noise and warmth would soothe you to sleep for about a 1/2 hour.

Grandma Davis came and stayed a week with us and slept on the couch in our tiny apartment.  She was there to show me how to be a mother of a tiny baby.  She showed me how to feed you and give you baths in the sink.  She loved you and snuggled with you at night so that I could try to get some sleep.
